We’re excited to share some news: Optimum Exercise Physiology is back consulting in Burra!

If that sounds like déjà vu, you’re not wrong. We ran services in Burra before, and had to pause when staffing made it unsustainable to keep going. It wasn’t a decision we made lightly, and it’s one we’ve been wanting to reverse ever since. Now, with our team at full strength, we’re able to return — and we couldn’t be happier about it.

Why We’re Returning to Burra
Small rural communities don’t always get the same access to allied health as bigger centres, and that gap matters. Burra already has a good personal trainer and a good physio — genuinely good ones. What’s been missing is the piece that sits between them: clinically supervised, individualised exercise for people managing pain, injury, or a chronic health condition, delivered by a university-trained Exercise Physiologist.

That’s the gap we exist to fill, in Clare and now in Burra too. Being part of this community again — not just servicing it from a distance — matters to us. We’re not trying to replace anyone already doing great work in town. We’re here for the people who’ve finished with physio but aren’t ready for a regular gym, or who need expert guidance a personal trainer isn’t trained to give.

If You’ve Been Putting Off Getting Help
Maybe you’ve got an old injury that flares up every time you try to get moving again. Maybe your GP has mentioned exercise as part of managing a health condition, and you’ve been meaning to look into it. Distance is a real reason people put things off — “I’ll deal with it once it’s more convenient” turns into months, sometimes years.

We hear this all the time, and we understand it. Now that we’re consulting from Burra Hospital, that particular reason is off the table.

Who This Is For
Our Burra sessions are for people managing chronic pain, arthritis, or a long-term health condition; anyone recovering from injury or surgery who needs a structured, supervised return to movement; people returning to exercise after a long break who want expert guidance rather than guesswork; and anyone nervous about exercising without support.

We’re also very keen to support NDIS participants, Aged Care clients, DVA card holders, and anyone with a Medicare Chronic Disease Management referral from their GP. These funding pathways matter to us — they’re what make it possible for us to keep showing up in Burra long-term.

What to Expect
We’ll be consulting from Burra Hospital, using the hospital’s gym space. This isn’t new territory for us — we’ve run full, individualised programs from this space with clients before, and it works well. You’ll get the same thorough initial assessment and personalised program you’d get in Clare. No pressure to be “fit enough” before you start.

The Details
We’re consulting at Burra Hospital on Monday afternoons, starting Monday 10th August. We’ve run group classes from this space before too, and it’s something we’d love to bring back as things grow.
